Asitis at the SDLP conference

Posted: 08 February, 2010

Asitis Consulting co-sponsored the SDLP party conference drinks reception at the Slieve Donard Hotel on Saturday, along with the NI Chamber of Commerce and NIIRTA.

Asitis was particularly pleased to have Taoiseach Brian Cowan, former SDLP leader Mark Durkan and new leader Margaret Ritchie as honoured guests.

Speaking at the event Barry Turley, director of public affairs paid tribute to Mark Durkan, “His contribution to the search for peace through Hume Adams, the political process which led to the Good Friday Agreement, the setting up of the Assembly, the bedding down of the institutions, policing and justice, economic development and every other aspect of the political life of Northern Ireland is immense. He produced the Northern Ireland Assembly’s first budget, was Deputy First Minister during difficult times, and took the Foyle seat when many had written the party’s chances off. He came into the leadership filling the shoes of two giants of Irish history, John Hume and Seamus Mallon, and he did it all, while retaining his humanity and wit”.
